Glenn Chandler – writer
Glenn Chandler was born in Edinburgh and is perhaps best known for creating the Scottish Television series Taggart which has won numerous awards and retains the record of being the longest ever running British crime drama. He started in theatre, writing one-act plays for London lunchtime venues in the 80s, before venturing into television where he also wrote for BBC’s Angels and Granada TV’s Crown Court. When Taggart ended after 28 years, during which time Glenn wrote a large proportion of the scripts plus a number of true crime dramas for Yorkshire Television, he went back into theatre and produced his own play Boys of the Empire on the Edinburgh Fringe. Thus began a long association with the Edinburgh Fringe where he wrote, produced and directed adaptations of Sandel and Lord Dismiss Us, two seminal gay novels, and his own original scripts Kids Play and The Good Scout. Kids Play won the Broadway Baby Award for Best Play on the Fringe while The Good Scout was given the Scotsgay Award for New Writing and Theatre.
